The R.E. Ginna nuclear plant and Rochester Gas & Electric have reached an agreement to provide a financial lifeline for the plant through March 2017, 18 months earlier than originally proposed.

FERC ruled for the third time that an allegation of “price suppression” was outside of the scope of its review of the proposed RSSA for the R.E. Ginna nuclear power plant.

The operator of the R.E. Ginna nuclear plant in western New York has reached an agreement to keep the financially stressed generator operating.

The NYPSC approved a temporary surcharge while a final agreement to keep the R.E. Ginna nuclear plant operating is hammered out.

The NYPSC had argued that it had sole jurisdiction over the rates and terms of an RSSA it had ordered between Exelon’s troubled R.E. Ginna nuclear plant and Rochester Gas & Electric.

Efforts to keep the Ginna nuclear plant operating has spurred a turf war between federal and state regulators who are conducting independent reviews.

FERC on Tuesday rejected the rate schedule proposed for the struggling Ginna nuclear power plant and ordered hearing and settlement proceedings.
