FERC put the Tennessee Valley Authority one step closer to replacing its Cumberland coal plant with a new natural gas plant when it permitted a new pipeline.

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s plan to swap a retiring coal plant with a new natural gas facility is making progress despite opposition from environmental groups.

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy advised FERC that TVA’s justification of a new gas plant construction is faulty, urging FERC to make its own assessment.
